There is much to do in the Four Corners

Mesa Verde National Park is, of course, the main attraction in the area ... these four-story "apartment buildings" built in the 1200s in the cliffs of Mesa Verde. Visit the cliff dwellings, explore the earlier ruins, get enlightened in the museum, have dinner at the Matate room, and so much more. Learn more at the Mesa Verde Country website.

Or explore further ... go to the Ute Tribal Park for even more cliff dwellings. The Anasazi Heritage Center (outside Dolores, CO) gives a slightly different perspective with Chacoan ruins. The Cultural Center in Cortez has a changing exhibit of local interest and history. Hovenweep is a less visited look into our "pre-history".

Visit the Four Corners ... the only place in the United States where four states touch each other. Your biggest decision may be on how to pose for that memorable and mesmerizing picture -- standing on one foot, on your hands and knees -- so many creative ways to be in four states all at once.

The scenery of Southwest Colorado is spectacular. There are nearly 900 miles designated as National Scenic and Historic Byways. One of them ... the San Juan Skyway ("the most beautiful drive in America") joins in Cortez, CO with the more recently designated "Trail of the Ancients". And if you want more ... there's horseback riding, river rafting, jeep trails, zip-lining, hiking and many activities are a short drive from Cortez.
